Yeah me too, I hope it doesn't take long for the articles and videos to release once the test drives begin.

 

I want to know the gear ratios of the 8-speed automatic transmissions.

With the iMT2 6-speed manual, I'd suspect the ratios are what we have now.

 

Toyota is very conservative in their truck engineering. If it ain't broke, don't fix it generally rules for them, and that has served them well in the past.

The 6-speed in the current Tacoma is essentially perfect and it would insane to replace it IMO.

I expect the 8-speed auto to be more or less new and tailored to the performance of the turbo engines.

 

The new iMT2 6-speed manual is going to have rev matching and anti-stall. Could be the same transmission with some electric throttling to help. The 1:1 gear is currently 4th. With my former Frontier it was the 5th gear. Hopefully the 1:1 gear for the 8-speed automatic isn't below 6th.

Can't wait to hear what reviewers say. I feel like it took a year+ for the narrative to turn in favor of the Tundra, with people now recognizing that a good all-rounder can be preferable to a truck that targets the spec wars. I have hight hopes we'll see the same here.
The new gen of mid-sizers (mostly thinking GM and Ford) seem like the benchmarks at this point but I think Toyota can top them.
