2024 Toyota Tacoma Engine Options

Assuming the Tacoma's reveal date of April is the real deal, the biggest thing I'm looking to see is how many engine options Toyota will give it.

What I hope the most is that Toyota offers the 3.5L V6 that's in the new Tundra. Either the hybrid or non hybrid version. That engine would be ridiculously fun in a truck the size of the Tacoma.

But if that's not going to happen I think it's safe to say that it will at least have Toyota's tried and tested turbo 4 cylinder.

Given the choice what engine would you want in the Tacoma?

Considering that the V6 puts out 389 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque, I think it would indeed be a great fit for the Tacoma, but we will likely get a detuned version.
I think the non hybrid version of the 3.5L V6 would be a perfect fit for the Tacoma. But I also like the efficiency of a hybrid and at least one online source predicts a performance hybrid for the Tacoma. Maybe as a range topper in the TRD Pro.

It is going to be fun to watch my next truck appear. I just don't know which Taco it will be yet.
According to Kirk Kreifels the Tacoma's engine options will be. He's doubtful that the 2.7L engine carries over. Let's see if he ends up being right.

Base Engine
2.4L turbo four-cylinder
10-speed automatic transmission
265 horsepower
310 lb-ft torque

i-FORCE MAX
2.4L turbo four-cylinder hybrid
10-speed automatic transmission
313 horsepower (265 hp from engine, 48 hp from electric motor)
440 lb-ft torque (310 lb-ft from engine, 130 lb-ft from electric motor)

I have seen other sources that think the hybrid tranny might be a six-speed, although the ten-speed would be more in keeping with what other companies are doing.

Hopefully we will know more soon.

So Toyota has dropped the big news that Tacos will come with an I-Force Max option. A lot of people assume that means the V-6 in the Tundra. But did Toyota actually say that? Could it be an I-Force Max with a four cylinder?

Makes you wonder what "soon" means when Toyota says the new Tacoma is coming soon.
