It will be interesting to compare these specs with the 4th gen TRD Off-Road. The Off-Road approach angle will no doubt suffer because of the large air dam and departure angle won't be as good without the ARB rear bumper.

The TRD Pro is definitely looking like my top pick, although I am expecting it to be pretty expensive. Like the old saying goes - you get what you pay for.

Out of all 4th Gen Tacoma trims, the TRD Pro (without the towing package) has the most off-road friendly ground clearance, water fording depth, approach, breakover and departure angles:

• Ground Clearance: 11 inches
• Approach: 33.8 degrees
• Breakover: 23.5 degrees
• Departure: 25.7 degrees

For comparison here's what the third gen Tacoma's specs are:

Ground clearance - 9.4 inches
Approach angle - 29 degrees, 32 degrees (TRD Off-Road) or 36.4 degrees (TRD Off-Road Pro)
Breakover angle - 23.5 degrees, 23.1 degrees (long bed), 23 degrees (4x4 access cab) or 24.7 degrees (TRD Pro)
Departure angle - 24 degrees, 20-21 (4x2 double cab), 26.4 degrees (Trail), 26.6 degrees (TRD Pro)

Do you think the approach angle for the Off-Road will be fixed by just unbolting the air dam?

Probably not fixed completely but it would probably be much better. I have not yet seen those angles for the TRD Off-Road and I am curious about it in stock form.

The new Off-Road does not seem as serious as in the past, but it does come with many optional upgrades which could let you make it into whatever you want.

For instance I think the suspension seats from the TRD Pro are optional on the TRD Off-Road along with many ot the other nicer toys.

As a bonus, it looks like the new Taco can easily fit bigger tires which should increase all those key specs a bit.
