Great video and breakdown here from David Koichi Chao of Automotive Press on YouTube.

If you're not familiar with David, he's probably the best person who could have spotted this truck. He's an expert in engineering and manufacturing who focuses on Japanese vehicles and seems to know Toyota inside and out. So the fact that this prototype happened to pull up next to him in traffic while he was visiting Detroit is a pretty amazing stroke of luck.

There's no new details here, but some good notes about towing and powertrain speculation, and interesting to see that they seemed to be benchmarking a current-gen Ranger on the drive.

Is it me or does the overall cabin seem bigger? If so, I hope Toyota increased rear passenger headroom as well since it is sort of lacking in the outgoing model.

100% agree with your hope. All the pieces are looking really good. My hopes are high that Toyota has knocked this one out of the park.
I also agree that it looks like Toyota may have gotten the new Taco just about perfect.

My hope is that they kept the good parts that make Tacomas so sweet and upgrade only the parts that needed it. I expect a bigger cabin and if that happens in about the same footprint I will be super happy.

I wonder if that trailer was for tow testing for the Tundra or if that trailer is for something else.
Most two axle trailers will carry up to 7,000 lbs, so maybe it is for finalizing the two ratings for the new Taco.
