Jack Hollis, senior vice president of automotive operations at Toyota Motor North America, said in a recent interview that the Tacoma is not going to be larger than the current generation.

In face, Toyota could be looking into the compact pickup truck segment to compete with the Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz.

I hope that Mr. Hollis is correct. It would be a shame to let this platform become more bloated than it need be,
Welcome to the forum @Buck Rogers! I completely agree with you the size of pickups these days is too much. It's completely unnecessary for what you actually need from a truck.

Are you a current/former Tacoma owner?

Every now and then remember the 2000's Tacoma and Rangers, if they can make them smaller they for sure would have to go with hybrid options :)
Welcome to the forum! What are you driving at the moment?
It would be great if Toyota produced a Maverick sized pickup with an optional hybrid, since the 4th gen Tacoma could get a big bigger.

I hope that the next Taco will not get much bigger. Pickups have become huge with no real gain in functionality and the current Taco is just about perfect IMO.

I have been considering a 2023 Tacoma but I just decided today to wait for the 4th gen, but hoping it doesn't bulk up to where I don't want one.

I almost bought a Santa Cruz but I can't get past the quality issues with Hyundai. I would also consider a truck that size if Toyota makes one.

These are interesting times in the truck market, with interesting new alternatives every year.

Tacofreak is also right. I have previously only used an older bZ4X XLE AWD. The vehicle identification number (VIN) indicates a Subaru Solterra when I tried to add it to my insurance (Geico). Geico didn't answer my call and said they couldn't fix it. I have sent the salesperson an email. It is identified as a Subaru by the NHTSA VIN decoder.
