The 4G Toyota Tacoma TRD PRO really is a proper successor.

I agree and I find that amazing. This 4th gen is new in virtually every way and yet it is still a Tacoma, and it seems like they designed it just for me.

I am often disappointed in new models, which don't live up to their history or potential. But this new truck is the Taco of my dreams and there is almost nothing that I would change about it.

I think Toyota has done a great job of updating what we wanted to see and leaving the things we already loved. Also, the styling update brings it sharply into the 20's without making the last gen look like an old pile of 💩! The ONLY thing I would have liked to see is a front locker, but I understand the lack of the need for one with the traction systems.
I agree @TheCorkyRooster the new Taco is the perfect echo of its strong heritage while somehow it is still all new. The styling looks fresh and yet you know it is a Tacoma the first time that you see it. Brilliant.

That front locker would have been cool, even though I agree that it is really no longer required. The TRD Pro and Trailhunter have all manner of cool parts that would be aftermarket in most trucks.

100% agree. So often a brand does something that alienates its base buyer. But here.... a legit much improved truck!

Best of all, Toyota offers so many ways to spec it that there's something for anyone here.

Very true and to an unusual degree, making this more of a range of trucks than just a group of distinct models.

I have never before seen a Toyota pickup which could be modified in so many ways. The entry level of each trim is a very nice truck with everything you need. The SR Access Cab is a solid, safe, well equipped, great looking truck which can be spec'd up to include many of the toys from higher level trims. You can build your own Tacoma in much finer detail than has ever been possible before. Cool
I like all the options but I really need to see the interior in person. I just seems very "cobbled together" to me and doesn't flow well. Ehhh...it will be an excuse to go look at trucks regardless!!! ;)

Have you seen the interview with the chief engineer? His explanation of it might help.
The interior is direct and straightforward as any truck should be, with a FJ Cruiser vibe. I think the TRD Pro and Trailhunter interiors look great with their better materials. I could happily live with either one of those halo models.

I might have integrated things a bit more on the dash but I absolutely love the actual switches you can operate without looking away and hitting that boulder in the trail. Trucks are tools and must function well and not just look pretty.

Toyota has pushed that tough truck look hard and I really don't like the current Tundra interior and it seems like the Taco was patterned on that. But to my eye it works better in the Tacoma and I have no reservations at all.
