It's definitely an exciting possibility! Toyota making such a big investment in their Texas plant could mean they have big plans on the horizon. It will be interesting to see if the Stout makes a comeback and how it compares to other trucks in the market. Can't wait to see what Toyota has in store for us!

 

If the production truck looks like that concept I would like it a lot.

I wouldn't give up my Taco dreams, but I think it would be popular and it looks cooler than what is currently available IMO.

 

Is this the plan that makes the Tundra? If so... why wouldn't it just be ramping Tundra production?

 

Yes, the Texas plant is where the Tundras are built.

I believe that is the only truck that is produced there at this time, making it likely that this is for a Tundra production expansion.

Toyota could sell a lot of smaller trucks... but I'm not sure why it would want to. Why disrupt a segment it owns.

 

I see the compact unibody trucks as completely different than a midsize, body on frame truck like the Taco. so I don't think it would disrupt Toyota's market position.

I am guessing that it would just add to Toyota's small truck dominance. I kind of doubt that anyone seriously considering a Tacoma has even thought about a truck like a Maverick or Santa Cruz, but I have been wrong before.

 

I agree it shouldn't disrupt the position... but it's always a risk. And I'm not sure it's worth taking a risk. The only way I see it make sense is if this truck is CLEARLY not a real truck and no one would ever cross-shop it with a Tacoma.
